This position is located in the Casper Field Office. Located between the base of Casper Mountain and along the banks of the North Platte River in central Wyoming, the High Plains District encompasses approximately 2.5 million acres of BLM-administered surface land and 11 million acres of mineral estate within Wyoming and Nebraska. You will serve as Senior Geologist for the Wyoming Sate Office â" Reservoir
Management Group (RMG), located in the Casper Field Office. The purpose of this position is to provide technical geologic expertise in support for the Agreements, Drainage, and Indian Diligence programs. The Reservoir Management Group has responsibility for these programs for all Wyoming and Nebraska. In general, the work involves providing technical geologic expertise for exploratory units and enhanced recovery units and for providing geologic support and direction for Reasonable Foreseeable Development Scenarios (RF! D) for NEPA documents. In addition, the incumbent reviews and advises the Chief, RMG, on matters related to oil and gas exploration and development on Federal and Indian lands. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
In addition to meeting the basic entry requirement, applicants must have specialized experience and/or directly related education of the position to be found qualified. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade.
Specialized Experience for the GS-07 Geologist: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in geology related work. Work assignments were diverse, limited in complexity & selected to provide experience & training. Examples: Provide geologic support for exploratory and enhanced recovery unit agreements. Provide geologic support and direction for Reasonable Foreseeable Development (RFD) scenarios for NEPA documents. Provide computer support for ex! ploratory and enhanced recovery unit agreements and for RFD scenarios f! or NEPA documents. OR have 1 year of graduate education leading to a master's degree in geology or a directly related field OR meet the requirements for Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) See OPM Quals Standard-General Policies E(4)(f); OR have an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above.
Specialized Experience for the GS-09 Geologist : 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in geology related work. At this level, geologists independently perform recurring assignments that are more difficult & complex than those performed by a recent graduate.Examples: Provide geologic support for exploratory and enhanced recovery unit agreements. Provide geologic support and direction for RFD scenarios for NEPA documents. Prepare correspondence and technical reports and respond to action item requests from the field, district or state offices OR 2 years of progressively higher-level graduat! e education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in the field of geology or directly related fields of study; OR have an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above.
Specialized Experience for the GS-11 Geologist: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in geology related work. At this level, work assignments require the geologist to determine approaches and solutions, using judgment in modifying, adapting and making compromises within standard guidelines, applying standard scientific practices to new situations and relating the work to precedents. Completed work is reviewed for technical soundness and conformance to requirements and objectives of the assignment; OR 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in the field of geology or directly related fields of study; OR ! have an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and ! education described above.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement.
Basic Entry Requirement: This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you have a degree in geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography; OR a combination of education and experience -- course work as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
