EchoStar is a billion dollar company with over 5000 employees worldwide and more than 25 years of experience designing developing and d! istributing awardwinning television settop boxes services and related delivery products for television EchoStar Corporation (NASDAQ SATS) is a premier global provider of satellite operations and digital TV solutions that enhance todays home entertainment lifestyle It’s wholly owned subsidiary Hughes is the worlds leading provider of satellite broadband for home and office delivering innovative network technologies and managed network services for enterprises and governments in more than 100 countries Among the many offerings of this combined powerhouse in broadband data and video are HughesNetRegistered the markets 1 highspeed satellite Internet service Sling Medias awardwinning SlingLoadedRegistered technology Move Networks adaptive bitrate streaming technology and Troppus’ software suite that combines a Client Application an Agent Application and a powerful Semantic Knowledge Management System and Blockbuster The Compression department designs implements and maintains! all video and audio compression systems needed to support Ech! oStar’s customers Compression is responsible for the entire video encoding and multiplexing infrastructure within Echostar and we constantly work to ensure our content quality meets or exceeds EchoStar specifications and customer expectations At the heart of the broadcast center Compression works across multiple departments to resolve concerns with audio and video quality signal handling encryption specialized hardware and transmission Compression is apt for someone who embraces new and specialized technologies thrives on the improvement and sharing of knowledge and seeks out unique challenges Working in Compression requires a tenacious detail oriented person who is willing to work shifts to support our 24 hour services Duties and Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities Responsible for maintaining the compression video system Ensure effective monitoring troubleshooting maintenance and verification of all compression systems Troubleshoot repair and replace defective equi! pment without assistance Complete all assigned projects with minimal supervision Provide training to departmental and interdepartmental personnel Continue learning through on the job experience challenge and training Additional Responsibilities Maintains expert knowledge of uplink systems to determine evaluate and apply appropriate diagnostic measures to the system to verify nature of problems Use diagnostic tools and resources to determine appropriate solutions Documents and escalates to appropriate vendors with any new problems andor system Engineering Change Orders Interacts with vendors suppliers customers and other EchoStar teams Coordinates system design implementation and maintenance with relevant departments Assist in design configuration and implementation of all facets of the compression system Maintains advanced knowledge of video and audio processing and encoding technologies Meet deadlines and complete assignments in a timely manner while still maintaining qual! ity standards Develops and updates Standard Operating Procedures Change! Configuration Requests System Diagrams and other technical documentation for all compression systems and functions Skills and Qualifications Education Experience Certification Requirements BSEE BSIT BSCS or BSIS degree preferred Fifth Year College or university program certificate or four to eight years related experience andor training or equivalent combination of education and experience Knowledge and Skill Requirements Technical Skills Understanding of video SD HD resolutions frame rates etc Understanding of audio MPEG Dolby Digital PCM etc Understanding of video compression MPEG H264 AVC GOP etc Understanding of ETR290 Knowledge in MPEG analysis Basic knowledge of RF modulation schemes to include QPSK and 8PSK Knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems Skills related to Ethernet TCPIP User level understanding of FTP SFTP TFTP HTTP etc Harmonic NMX a plus Cisco a plus Additional Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance proce! dures system documentation technical manuals system diagrams etc Ability to write routine reports and correspondence Ability to clearly write detailed procedures and technical documentation Ability to speak effectively before groups of vendors customers peers or management Ability to work effectively with crossfunctional teams and must be flexible enough to deal with different technical skill levels skill sets and a highly dynamic work environment and schedules The ability to creatively approach problems not covered by existing procedures is important Ability to deal with concurrent problems and issues effectively Ability to work under a dynamic and highpressure environment
