Hiring/Budgeted Salary or Hourly Range: The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $67,200 - $87,500/yr.
Full Salary Range: $67,200 - $119,600/yr. - Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Brief Summary of Job Duties

Under the general direction of the Sr Associate Director, manages the execution of all of the department's responsibilities under the Systemwide and Campus policies and procedures related to sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH). Responsibilities under the policies and procedures include, but are not limited to: receiving and analyzing findings of an investigative report after completion of a Title IX investigation; determining responsibility and assigning sanctions as appropriate; OR conducting equivalent adjudicative procedures as dictated by Systemwide policy and local procedures. The incumbent is also responsible for: researching national best practices related to SVSH issues within student conduct and provide recommendations to the Office of Student Conduct regarding trends, trauma informed practices, training opportunities, federal regulations and case law within higher education; tracking, monitoring and maintaining SVSH records and ensuring compliance with UC System-wide and Clery-mandated reporting procedures; administering the No Contact Order (NCO) process; and developing and presenting educational programming on student conduct issues regarding interpersonal violence. The Associate Director will serve as a member of the Title IX Case Management Team (CMT) on student matters and the Coordinated Community Response Team. As a member of the department leadership team, the Associate Director will also be responsible for a caseload of academic and behavioral student conduct cases of the highest complexity and sensitivity addressed via a traditional administrative adjudication process and/or the Office of Student Conduct Restorative Justice Program.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Work experience dealing with complainants and respondents in interpersonal violence cases and investigations.
  • Knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization.
  • Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
  • Advanced abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
  • Advanced ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or other advanced degree.
  • Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

60% Management of Interpersonal Violence (SVSH) Adjudication

With a high degree of knowledge in Title IX matters, sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH) matters, and relevant laws and policies, serves as the department's technical leader in addressing matters related to interpersonal violence of a sexual nature. Manages the execution of all of the department's responsibilities under the Systemwide and Campus policies and procedures related to sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH). Responsibilities under the policies and procedures include, but are not limited to: receiving and analyzing findings of an investigative report after completion of a Title IX investigation; determining responsibility and assigning sanctions as appropriate; OR conducting equivalent adjudicative procedures as dictated by Systemwide policy and local procedures. Administers the No Contact Order (NCO) Process by reviewing and implementing requests, meeting with parties, and responding as appropriate to alleged violations of NCOs. Attends the Office of Title IX and Sexual Harassment Policy Compliance (TIX/SHPC) Case Management Team (CMT) meetings on student matters; collaborates with TIX/SHPC on all cases of interpersonal violence; consults with campus counsel, Associate Dean of Student Life, and the Assistant Dean/Director of Student Conduct regarding all aspects of SVSH adjudication to ensure consistency with legal guidance and UC policy; creates, revises, and maintains all templates, informational brochures (i.e. witness participation, respondent's rights, complainant's rights, etc.) related to all interpersonal violence communications in accordance with UCSB and UC Systemwide policy; and is responsible for developing, reviewing, revising, and maintaining internal procedural manuals in collaboration with the Assistant Dean/Director of Student Conduct. Serves as a Campus Security Authority responsible for reporting incidents in compliance with the Clery Act, and remains current on compliance requirements.

20% Interpersonal Violence/SVSH Education and Outreach

Provides strategic vision and oversight on development of campus-wide educational outreach efforts to students, staff, faculty, and other campus constituents, regarding SVSH awareness, prevention, and adjudication in conjunction with community partners (e.g. Title IX Office, CARE). Measures, assesses, and evaluates programs. Provides information about student conduct policies, procedures, and regulations to students, faculty, staff, Job Standards, alumni, the general public, and the media. Conducts annual review of department publications and websites, including text for the UCSB General Catalog and orientation publications for anything related to SVSH. Participates in training and conferences, as assigned, including, but not limited to, UC Systemwide meetings, ASCA, NASPA, ATIXA, and the Center for Academic Integrity. In collaboration with the senior associate director and director, develops and implements assessment measures to evaluate and identify trends, concerns, and outcomes for student engagement in the conduct process to inform the development of appropriate educational sanctioning. Assists in the development of the Office of Student Conduct Annual Report.

10% Case Management for Sensitive & Complex Matters

As assigned by the senior associate director or the assistant dean/director, manages adjudication of highly sensitive and complex incidents of alleged academic and social behavioral misconduct via the traditional administrative adjudication process and/or the Office of Student Conduct Restorative Justice Program, as appropriate. Interviews witnesses, writes up findings regarding alleged conduct violations, and makes recommendations for sanctions. Consults regularly with senior Office of Student Conduct staff on appropriate adjudication and sanctioning standards. Serves as an expert policy and procedure resource for junior staff.

10% Department Leadership

Serves as a member of the department leadership team, providing guidance on long-range planning, development, and new initiatives, especially with respect to prevention and adjudication of SVSH. Participates in special projects, initiatives, and committees in support of the Office of Student Conduct, Dean of Students Office, Student Life Cluster, and the Division of Student Affairs, as assigned by the Assistant Dean/Director of Student Conduct. Performs other duties as assigned.
