Neurodiagnostics involves the use of highly specialized instruments to record electrical nerve potentials of the central and peripheral nervous systems to aid in! the diagnosis of disorders arising from these areas. Electroencephalography (EEG) focuses on the physiological recording of the brain. The EEG Technologist demonstrates a high level of competence and caring in performing assigned diagnostic procedures.
Education and Experience
One of the following combinations of education and experience is required: EITHER (1) Graduate of an Electroneurodiagnostics Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs (CAAHEP) or the Committee on Accreditation for Education Neurodiagnostic Technology (CoA-NDT), or currently enrolled as a student in such a program. OR (2) Associate’s degree and at least one year of Electroneurodiagnostic experience. OR (3) On-the-job training and at least three years of experience in Electroneurodiagnostics with at least 50% of this experience in Electroencephalography. OR (4) Previously registered as an EEG Technologist and actively seeking registration renewa! l no more than one year after expiration of the previous crede! ntial.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registration
Registered EEG Technologist (R.EEG T) from the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET), or currently seeking ABRET EEG registration, is required.
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers is required.
