Shop Machinist Supervisor

The Shop Machinist Supervisor supervises all shift employees and directs the activities of the machinists as needed to effiecently support the Production Department in an efficient manner for the desired quality and quantity of work.
Specifically, the Shop Supervisor will:
Review daily production schedule for the department to plan work and personnel assignments for the shift. Supervise and direct personnel on shift in performing operations according to sound operating principles and company policies and procedures.
Anticipate and determine causes for delays in shift operations and takes appropriate action to meet shipping schedules. Report promptly to management when delays occur, estimate of time delays and when operations will be resumed.
Direct personnel in the receipt of raw materials and supplies against quantities ordered and quality of specifications and advises purchasing department of deviations.
With Plant Manager, study operations where cost standards are not being met to determine causes and apply corrective measures.
Interview applicants for jobs and recommend candidates for hire. With Manager, Safety and Maintenance, conduct orientation of new hires and their safety training on shift.
Conduct probationary and annual performance appraisal of each employee and recommends increases, retraining, transfer or progressive discipline. Apply company employee relations policies in dealing with all employees.
Maintain good housekeeping in the department. Report any process and/or equipment problems. Assure that machinery, equipment and facilities are properly maintained for efficient production.
Set and maintain time and production quotas when applicable.
Comply with the Bucyrus Quality Management Procedures.
Perform other duties and assume accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives.
This position requires:
A High school degree or equivalent. Additional college level courses in engineering and management are preferred.
A minimum of five years of directly related experience with at least two yearsâ experience as a supervisor.
Ability to read and interpret blue prints to the extent required to write manufacturing procedures for adequate clarity and detail for shop use is preferred.
Availability to work rotating shifts and overtime based on business needs.
Ability to lift 50 pounds. Extensive bending, stooping, standing, walking in a manufacturing plant environment.
