PAYROLL MANAGER (DEALERSHIP GROUP)

Experienced automotive Payroll Manager needed for large automotive dealer group in Massachusetts. The successful candidate will have experience managing payroll for a large population, preferably car dealership employees. Experience as a dealership controller with extensive payroll experience will also be considered.

This is a new role as the dealer group is looking to implement a consolidated payroll department. The Payroll Manager hired will lead the consolidation process and will be responsible to build out the department as they see best fit. This person will be responsible to develop an internal payroll team underneath them; including hiring, training, and development of their team. The successful candidate will be well versed in administering payroll for automotive employees and be extremely detail oriented. Experience on ADP Vantage is strongly preferred. This person will also have the support and help from upper management as needed. The department will also be responsible to handle light HR work from an administrative standpoint, such as onboarding new employees and electronic hiring. The dealer group pays their employees weekly, with commissions paid out both weekly and monthly depending on the employees' position. Responsibilities:

  • Build out a consolidated Payroll office including hiring, developing, and training of staff
  • Process weekly payroll for all employees and run all payroll reports weekly
  • Understand employee payroll issues, and communicates solutions effectively, professionally, and respectfully.
  • Prepare and issues paychecks.
  • Manage payroll deductions
  • Keep records of leave pay and nontaxable wages.
  • Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.
  • Compile payroll data such as hours worked; sales volume, commissions, and bonuses; monies to be withheld for taxes; employee contributions to insurance and retirement plans; etc., from time sheets and other records.
  • Update master payroll records by verifying and recording changes affecting net wages such as federal and state tax exemptions, insurance coverage, etc., and data concerning compensation increases, promotions and/or transfer of employees between departments.
  • Compute wages and deductions, reviews for accuracy and posts to payroll records.
  • Prepare and file all hiring and termination paperwork including COBRA letters.
  • Manages PTO accruals and calculation of PTO rates for flat-rate employees. Tracks and accounts for any PTO administered outside of the PTO policy
  • Maintain records for vacations and sick-day eligibility.
  • Ensure new employees are enrolled for their benefits timely and that the billing is accurate.
  • Process new hire paperwork, transfers, pay changes, and terminations on a weekly basis
  • Answer questions from employees related to payroll topics
  • Investigate and resolve and payroll discrepancies
  • Calculate fringe benefits on company-issued demos
  • Maintain professional appearance and neat work area.
  • Work well with store level management to ensure reporting and payroll reporting is correct and on time
  • Be a firm but fair manager, no degrading employees or other staff.
  • Be a team player
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Travel:

  • Travel will be required in the beginning as this person will need to visit with the current dealerships and the store level accounting staff to properly implement the consolidated payroll process. After department is established, this will be an in-office role.

Compensation:

  • Compensation range will likely be in the $100,000 - $125,000+ range to start depending on experience, performance, and track record. Final compensation plan will commensurate with individual's experience level.
