Description: ThinkingAhead is hiring Executive Director right now, this occupation will be placed in Wyoming. For detail informations about this occupation opportunity please read the description below. Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance
Jackson , WY

Organizational Background
The Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance works to protect the wildlife, wildlands, and community character of Jackson Hole. Established in 1979, the Alliance is a respected grassroots community organization and is the oldest and largest environmental organization based in the area. We monitor the impacts of growth and development on public and private lands in and around the valley, and work with the community to achieve a healthy future for the people and wildlife of Jackson Hole. We believe that citizens should be informed and active! ly involved in shaping this unique region.

The Allian! ce has a truly collaborative approach to its work. It has been a key leader or key partner in these initiatives: the absence of billboards in Teton County; reasonable caps on the size of commercial and residential buildingsparticularly restricting big-box commercial development; smart growth regulations; the preservation of key wildlife migration routes; protections of our wild public lands through strong management regimes controlling motorized use, mineral extraction, and winter use; local regulations requiring bear-proof garbage cans and prohibiting the feeding of wildlife.

The Alliance has been instrumental in helping to create memorable images such as the 700-plus acres of open ranch land at the southern entrance of town and thousands of acres of standing forest instead of clear cuts and highways in several areas of Jackson Hole. The Alliance's collaboration has been key in recent victories such as: The defeat of the Bridger-Teton-Caribou-Targhee forests merge! r, the prevention of the sale of forest service land at the base of Teton Pass, and the commissioning of a detailed study how to best reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions in Teton County over the next decade. Although much of the Alliance's best work may be unheralded, we try to stay ahead of potential developments and activities in order to influence emerging issues in their formative stages. The more proactive we can be, the more we can modify or derail proposals long before they become adversarial and headline worthy.

The Alliance promotes an organizational culture that fosters passion for its mission and open communication. From its fully owned office building situated at the base of Snow King Mountain, the staff enjoy a casual and supportive environment where adjacent summer and winter recreational activities are encouraged.

About Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole is a spectacular high mountain valley that is home to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Par! ks, the National Elk Refuge, and many of our nation's most cherished wi! ldlife. If you enjoy the outdoors, you'll be crazy about Jackson Hole. It offers technical climbing, hikes for as much energy as you care to muster, skiing down mountains or across meadows, running raging river canyons in kayak or canoe, fishing in remote mountain streams where all you'll meet are fish and maybe an elk or moose. A growing arts community furnishes courses in painting, dance, and other creative endeavors for everyone from tots to retirees. Art galleries line the streets, an acclaimed symphony fills summer nights with melodic sounds, and local and professional theatre produce classics along with experimental works. The restaurants threaten to wreck your calorie resolve with lots of tasty options. The philanthropic bent of the population has resulted in a support for nonprofits that puts Teton County in the top 16% out of 3,115 counties in the U.S. as far as median contributions per household, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy's August 2012 report, "Ho! w America Gives."

Jackson is also an ideal place to raise a family with outstanding schools (both public and private) and a low crime rate. Extracurricular activities for children abound with organized sports, a wonderful recreation center, and new library with an expanded children's section and a plethora of class offerings.
