SALARY RANGE: Pay is based upon education and experience and is set by the Physician Professional Standards Board. Three components of pay are base, market and performance pay. Current pay range is up to $195,000.

TOUR OF DUTY: Primarily will work 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday with shared on-call. Shared on-call would include MOD coverage, weeknights: 4:00 pm to 7:30 am and weekends: either 7:30 am to 4:00 pm or 4:00 pm to 7:30 am.

Special Employment Consideration: Individuals eligible for the following appointments are encouraged to apply: 5 CFR 213.3102 "u", Schedule A, Appointment of persons with disabilities ; mental retardation, severe physical disabilities, or psychiatric disabilities; and Disabled veterans with a compensable service-connected disability of 30% or more.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship

Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

Must pass pre-employment examination.

Designated and/or Random Drug Testing required.

Background and/or Security Investigation required.

English Language Proficiency required.

DUTIES:
The Staff Physician possesses the knowledge and skills necessary in the following areas:

Clinical Practice/Patient Care:

  • Delivers holistic and comprehensive patient focused services as the primary care provider, utilizing the nursing process which includes: Assessment; Diagnosis; Planning.
  • Implementation and Evaluation and modification based upon the response to the plan of care.
  • Serves as primary care provider, prescribing and monitoring the implementation of pharmacological and other methods of management for health promotion.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory tests.
  • Initiates requests for consultation services with other services within VA as well as non-VA.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities include: planning, coordinating and ensuring continuity of care for their panel of patients, including maintenance of health and treatment of illness.
  • Work effectively with other healthcare providers and interdisciplinary health care to team to deliver cost effective, quality health care for outpatients.
  • Serve on clinical and administrative committees as assigned.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Attends Clinical Executive Board, staff meetings and Executive Committee of the Medical Staff.
  • Participates in administrative duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Must be a Citizen of the United States.

LICENSURE AND REGISTRATION: Physicians (Except Residents). Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

EDUCATION. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Approved schools are:
  • Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
  • Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
  • Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
Veterans' Preference:
